We took a great spring getaway last week. It was short, but wonderful. We started out going to Hershey PA where we took a tour and enjoyed a great 3D show. The show had some cool special effects and was really enjoyed by everyone. It was a really fun place to be.
That night we stayed in a hotel in Lancaster that had a small water park. The kids really enjoyed it, and I loved it that it was big enough that the kids thought it was great, but small and not crowded that I didn't have to worry so much about losing anyone. Jayna got her brave on and went down one of the big slides too - she enjoyed it but said she didn't like it when you drown at the end!
The next day we headed to Philadelphia and met some friends (Angie and Bethany and Anna Janes) at the Franklin Institute of Science- it is suppose to be a cool museum, but was so crowded that it was a bit overwhelming, however Jayna and Bethany had a great time, as Angie said, they'd be happy if we took them to a cemetary. Bethany and Jayna are good friends, but Bethany moved away last summer, they picked up where they left off, after about 2 minutes of shyness. After the Franklin Institute we walked over to the Academy of Natural Sciences ( I had bought a pass to the science museum here, so they were both free), it was a much bigger hit, partly because it was not crowded at all, and Jayna has been learning about dinosaurs so to see all the dinosaur replicas was awesome for her.
The next morning Andrew woke up with a fever and feeling lousy- I did not want to acknowledge that! We lounged around the hotel for a while then he was starting to feel a bit better so we headed into town .( Philadelphia traffic/driving is awful!!, I'm so glad Richard was there!) It took us quite awhile to get there, between tons of traffic and getting in the wrong lane and such, but we made it to Independence Hall Visitor Center. We walked over to see the Liberty Bell, by this point the girls we feeling beat and not thrilled and I don't think Andrew was feeling so great, so to salvage it a bit, we took a horse and carriage ride around some of the historical sights. We went to the Jane's and had a picnic in the park, it was nice to see everyone. We left around 8:15 Pm, and Richard drove us all the way home, getting home around 2:30 AM.
The vacation felt so good, I'm still enjoying it. I think too, now that our youngest child is 6, that travel is getting easier. I hope to post some pictures soon.
Reading now- "Water for Elephants"- no tests at work tomorrow, I wonder how far I'll get.
Just Finished- "When we were Orphans"
And so it goes...
